Happy New Year everyone! We spent a lot of time the past week thinking about 2010, what we did and did not accomplish, and about what we hope to accomplish in 2011. Some of the major accomplishments of 2010 included:

Looking back, all in all, it was a pretty good year for the farm. But farming is all about the future, and now that one season is behind us, it’s time to begin thinking about the next, so here’s what’s on our list for 2011:

  • More perennials and fruit trees–look out for a Stanley plum
  • More small hoop houses–at least one, possibly two
  • Serious orchard pruning
  • Cutting flowers
  • Build a roadside farm stand for surplus
  • Two spring lambs
  • Grow and raise more food for others: An extra garden plot and a couple of turkeys for the local food pantry (stay tuned)

We’re feeling especially passionate about the possibilities of the last one, and see getting more involved as a farm with issues of local food security as one of the main goals that drives us and our farm forward in 2011.

What’s on your list of goals for 2011? Learn to make cheese? Bake bread? Prune a tree? Check out our schedule of 2011 homesteading workshops.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, and productive new year!
